The high tech world seems to be happy with the achievements of this years CeBIT:

4200 companies from 70 countries were exhibiting and a number of 339000 visitors from about 90 different countries came to see what news the high tech industry holds in store. Both figures have increased slightly compared to 2010.

Furthermore over 500 CIOs were present and more than 7 million contacts were made. 8000 visitors were interested in the speeches and talks held at the CeBIT global conferences.

One of the main topics  “Work and Life with the Cloud” was published at the right time and had it’s fingers on the pulse of the time. Apart from Cloud Computing hot topics were evolving around tablets, smartphones, mobile business solutions, IT security and 3D.

A regional emphasis was put on this years partnering country Turkey – over 90 exhibitors were taking part and were meeting up with a growing number of international visitors.

Impressive numbers and facts – the CeBIT seems to be one of the main attractions and the place to be for everyone active or interested in high tech trends.

projektwerk CEO Dr. Christiane Strasse says “meeting freelancers and corporate representatives at the CeBIT is always interesting and very beneficial to our business.”

What is your opinion: As an IT freelancer is it crucial for you to be present at the CeBIT? Do you profit in terms of business or is it more about staying informed?

Hamburg, 17. Februar 2011.

Many aspire to be a writer, but how exactly do you go about becoming a freelance writer and why would a person choose this path?

The dream of writing is becoming more attainable for a larger group of people. The technological advances broadened the ways of communication between people – especially the internet has helped making writing accessible to nearly everyone. Due to this an increasing number of writers are now able to see their words published. Freelance writing might be the answer for those who haven’t been able to publish a book yet, who have lost a job and need an income, or for writers who simply want to explore the world of writing.

Why become a freelance writer?

  • a freelance writer is self-employed and able to write for any publication or company
  • fewer author’s dreams of publishing a book are becoming reality so a lot of them turn to freelance writing to fulfill their passion in writing
  • freelance writing is a way to stay connected and up to date to the publishing world
  • to stay in contact with other talented writers might help to improve your skills
  • for all practical purposes it’s good that freelance writers can choose their working hours
  • to have control over what you spend your time on can be pretty appealing
  • how profitable the jobs are, is based on how much a freelancer chooses to work e.g. with higher pay for more articles
  • freelance writing is so appealing because your are your own boss – this can be motivating for people who are driven, creative, goal-setters and people who won’t fail to meet deadlines

Nevertheless freelance writing can be a downfall for those who need a lot of guidance and another person telling them which work needs to be done, and especially when it has to be done in a project. Freelance writing is a lifestyle built around words and creativity combined with long working hours. It can be a stressful job but passionated writers are definitely proud when their work is being published.

You are a freelance writer knowing more reasons for a career like that? Do you agree with this article? Feel free to comment and leave a reply!

Fair wages and a decisive, unanimous project management are the main motivational factors for IT freelancers, so far the results of a survey of IT job boards among 99 IT professionals.

Additionally IT professionals tend to be more motivated at the end of a project than at the beginning. The reason for this is the prospect of the feeling of satisfaction, that occurs when completing a project. For 93% of the respondents, productivity means to produce as much as possible and not to finalize one thing that one can show off in front of the chef.

Another motivational factor is money (important for 46%). So is time pressures of colleagues who are waiting for results (57%). An early finishing time seems to be rather unimportant and was only mentioned by 16% of the respondents as a motivational support.

Many IT experts stated that writing to-do lists on a daily basis is very helpful to them. With those lists you would have a little success in every evening, you would have achieved something and feel more motivated..

The main motivational killers are ambiguous instructions according to 85 percent of the respondents.

However, loud noises or simply a bad mood can harm the motivation. Distractions such as reading e-mails or checking the latest posts in social networks slow down as well. Short breaks on the other hand should not be despised: Seventy-five percent of the respondents said that after a small break they would feel much more productive than before.

We are curious to hear your view on this study. What motivates you most?

Dropbox: Files without Borders

Posted by David / Category: freelance, tips

Dropbox is a Web-based file hosting service operated by Dropbox, Inc. that uses cloud computing to enable users to store and share files and folders online using file synchronization. The tool has great potential: No more fumbling for lost or damaged storage devices and always up to date with the latest file versions. Alternatives: Zumo or SugarSync.

“…your files follow you to whichever device you happen to be working on.”

JWT is one of the largest ad agencies in the U.S. and the fourth-biggest in the world. JWTIntelligence, the firms marketing communications network, is a well-known center for provocative thinking. It focuses on identifying changes in the global zeitgeist and revealing cultural shifts: “We make sense of the chaos in a world of hyper-abundant information and constant innovation – finding quality amid the quantity”.

100 Things to Watch in 2011 is a wide-ranging compilation that partly reflects broader shifts the firm has been tracking over the past few years. The list presents interesting trends, from the evolution of the mobile phone into an “everything hub” to the development of counter-trends, for example to balance out the growing immersion in the digital world, people will increasingly embrace face-to-face gatherings and digital downtime.
