The wait was finally over! Yesterday, the Schmidt’s Tivoli hosted the Hamburg Animation Awards 2010. The theater, located on Hamburg’s notorious Reeperbahn, received over 100 submissions for the prestigious price and 11 short films were selected for the awards show. As in past years, the viewers were given the honor to nominate one film for the Audience Award. After a short introduction by host Sandra Maahn, Frank Horch, president of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce and Prof. Dr. Karin von Welck, Senator for Culture, Media and Sport gave their speeches.

Shortly after, the show began. The viewers were shown 11 highly imaginative yet very different short films. The audience was taken on an emotional rollercoaster as the presentations produced everything from laughter to embarrassed silence, from bewildered head-shaking to displease. There was something for everyone and all films had their charms. However, prizes were only awarded to the top three. First place went to the German short film “Lebensader”. The second place, sponsored by projektwerk, and the Audience Award went to a short film called “Bob”, which is about a little hamster that experiences a surprise while on the hunt for love. It was one of the few films that caused much amusement.

After the show, the winners and guests mingled in the beautifully decorated lobby and partied late into the night. Here are some impressions of the evening:

Bald ist es wieder so weit und der siebte “Hamburg-Animation-Award” findet in Hamburg statt. Am 05.Juli 2010 heißt es wieder ‘Der Fantasie sind keine Grenzen gesetzt’.

Eine erfahrene Jury hat in einer Vorauswahl bereits 21 Filme von über 100 Einsendungen vorsortiert. Diese 21 Filme sind allerdings noch geheim. Am 05.Juli werden dann nur die 10 besten Animationsfilme gezeigt, die die Chance auf den Gewinn des „Hamburg – Animation – Award 2010“ haben.

Welche Filme dies sein werden, wird in den kommenden Tagen von einer großen Jury entschieden. Wie im letzten Jahr, wird es auch in diesem nicht einfach werden. Mit projektwerk als Sponsor an der Seite, wird es aber bestimmt wieder ein gelungener Abend werden.

Einer der wichtigsten Crossmedia Wettbewerbe geht in die Endrunde. Am 26.05.2010 im Streit’s Filmtheater in Hamburg wird das Finale, bei dem sich die letzten fünf Agenturen beweisen werden, stattfinden. In der Experten-Jury sind u.a. Armin Jochum (Jung von Matt/Alster), Frank-Michael Schmidt (Scholz & Friends) und Stefan Kolle (Kolle Rebbe). Nun steht die Shortlist fest, wer in diesem Jahr um den begehrten Preis wetteifern darf:

• “bebe generation 2009″ für bebe – Heye & Partner GmbH
• “Handy leer? Fanta her!” für Fanta – Yoc AG
• “Hochschulinitiative Neue Bundesländer” für die Wissenschafts- bzw. Kultusministerien der neuen Bundesländern – Scholz & Friends Agenda
• “Lieber verliebt” für Bauknecht – Chocolate Blue GmbH
• “Need for Speed – The Battle” für Electronic Arts (EA) – Crossmedia GmbH

Auch das Publikum kommt nicht zu kurz und darf per Handy Voting mit entscheiden. Abend’s wird dann auf einer exclusiven Veranstaltung mit den glücklichen Gewinnern gefeiert. Dies ist dann auch der perfekte Rahmen für das Networking. Eine Teilnahme ist allerdings ausschließlich auf persönliche Einladung möglich.

…young talents from animation schools around the globe came together in “toon town” hamburg to present their work as part of the hamburg animation award 2009. the event, an international award show for animated cartoons, is a concept organized and sponsored by the hamburg chamber of commerce, the bildungswerk medien e.v. and the hamburg animation school. the prestigious prize has been presented for the fith consecutive year now, honoring young up-and-coming illustrators for the most creative stories and original styles.
