When you are logged in on projektwerk and want to create a new profile or project, you should not only pay attention to the conciseness of the title and wether the (required) skills are set correctly. The free text field “about me”/”about the project” is also factored into the matching, even if it is not as strongly weighted as the title and the skills.

Concerning the text length this means: Be sure to mention all the important skills and information but avoid repetitions or too many details. A maximum of 1,500 signs should be sufficient. For extensive CVs, references, certificates and the like, we recommend you to upload them as attachments to your profile or project.

With yesterday’s release, we integrated another option for optimal matching results.

From now on you have the possibility to mark your skills as word groups. Just put the term in quotation marks (e.g. “sap hr”, “business analyst”).

With the old design of projektwerk, one was only able to fill in a limited number of information. Therefore many projektwerk members entered more than one skill into one input field, separated by e.g. semicolons, commas or slashes.

Example:

With the so called „tokenizing“(splitting) of the input fields, we make it possible that every single term is considered in the matching. However, the disadvantage of this was that terms consisting of several words were also considered separately. Thus the problem was that these “single words” did not make sense or just had another meaning than intended.

Example: Someone is looking for an SAP HR-expert. Until now, one could search for sap and hr with the entry sap hr. If you enter “sap hr” now, you will only get the matches with that exact word group.

Some examples to explain:

  • I fill in sap hr-> I can also find sap r/3.
  • I fill in “sap hr”-> I can not find sap r/3 any more.
  • I fill in sap r/3-> I can also find “sap hr”.

This means that the word group is considered in one direction only: From your profile or project to the one it matches with.

Just give it a try. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to ask us.

As CEO of a company you are always looking for good ways to achieve business targets and to save money. A strategy that helps you to save money, time and nerves, is to delegate as many tasks as possible to external experts – to outsource. elance.com has compiled the best tips, based on customer interviews:

1st define the scope and timing of your project
It may seem obvious, but every successful outsourcing project begins with a detailed planning and formulation of your goals. Freelancers depend on accurate, complete information to be able to make a realistic offer and to give you an accurate price range.

2nd evaluate a freelancer like a potential permanent employee
Do not be afraid to ask questions if you negotiate with a freelancer. Choosing a freelancer for a project requires as much dexterity as the selection of an employee. Also a freelancer should fit into your team and be reliable.

3rd find specific skills and experience in the desired range
Ideally, the freelancer whom you’ve selected has experience in the field where he is supposed to work.  In case of complex technical projects as software development, having experience is very important. Make sure that the freelancer has worked in this area and can refer to satisfied customers.

4th the first selection criterion should not be the price
Although it is tempting, never choose a freelancer on the basis of money. Experienced outsourcers suggest almost always excluding the cheapest and the most expensive offer. In their experience, the most successful projects are those in which the offer was balanced.

5th check the portfolio and work samples
Just look at the previous work of the freelancers to insure they fulfill your expectations. If you are still unsure after you have viewed all the information such as CV, work samples and references, ask the freelancer to sketch an outline. A freelancer who wants to win the project will understand your desire for security.
