Ignorance and a lack of understanding undermine the implementation of social media in many medium sized businesses.
The question is: What is social media useful for?
The social web is a communication network. Completely new ways of communicating have developed online. More and more people are using these to express their opinions and exchange information. This fact cannot be denied.
Different kinds of people are talking to each other, commenting or forwarding things that have been posted in blogs and pictures are uploaded in public galleries.
Social networks, like facebook, are used to find old and new friends and to reconnect.
This leaves a huge network of social relationships and information, which is exchanged and rated.
And it is not only products or services of big businesses that are being talked about…But until now a lot of middle sized businesses haven’t made their step towards the social web.
This is mainly due to respect of the unknown and to fear of negative feedback.
To avoid this, the first measure would be to carefully listen and watch to what is going on in the social web: e.g. what are people talking about and is my business being talked about?
Social Media is mostly mentioned in connection with marketing, but there is also a big potential to use it for customer relationship management:
Social media can make it a lot easier for your (potential) customers to get in touch with your company. They can not only state their opinions but also get involved in brainstorming or improvement of existent or new products and services.
All in all different kinds of businesses can gain a lot through joining the social web – listening to your customers is essential.
Social media allows you to market target oriented and improves customer loyalty if done in a right way.
How about you?
Are you using social media for business purpose?
